KnuckleHead Harps: Modification Examples

Pictures speak a thousand words - below are photos of the modifications I've made to past Hohner Harmonicas.  Seeing is believing ... if you play Harmonica you can do this yourself !!

In the photos below the top picture shows the grooves that are found on a stock Hohner Pearwood Comb harmonica (Marine Band/Blues Harp).  Those grooves will negatively effect the "air tightness" of a harmonica.  The bottom picture demonstrates what happens when you take a little time to smooth out those grooves, making for a tighter, better playing Hohner.  For a second opinion see what Mr. Pollard has to say about this:

In the above photo you see a stock Hohner on the top and a customized Hohner on the bottom.  The reeds are clearly visible on the bottom harp as the covers have been modified and folded in.

Again, top photo is the stock Hohner and the bottom a customized Hohner.  Notice the wooden tines are rounded while the top photo shows the sharp edged tines.  Also notice the corners are rounded - much more comfortable.  Smooth and comfortable, tight and loud ...

Check out the little "dips" on the end of this harp.  Hold your current harp in your hands and imagine it having these dips in the ends.  Yeah - more control!  More comfort !   Total custom!!  I lovingly call these dips "Knuckles" as they resemble the knucles on your hand.  Think outside the box on the little things you can do to make your harmonica more comfortable and easy playing.

There are a lot of modifications you can make to your harps to make them play MUCH better.  If you want tips let me know - I'll be happy to share any information I may have to help you out.  One word of warning - buy cheap inexpensive USED harmonicas off of eBay until you feel comfortable modifying your expensive new Hohner's.

I'm going to start posting information here about Harmonicas I like.

KONGSHENG
I was recently given a KONGSHENG harmonica as a gift - and so far I really like this harp.  I cannot find them available on a US Website, but if you are interested here is their link:    www.ikongsheng.com

The model I received was the "KS-10BF".  This harmonica feels heavy and well built and plays great.  Pictures and clips coming soon - so stay tuned.

Once upon a time I had hair - but alas I'm now known as The Knuckle Head!
